Smaller improvements: the Condition page, lifespans and a smoother app

Next to the bigger changes this week, a round of smaller ones. Most of them are about one question: what needs doing on my bikes, and can I do it right there?

The Condition page leads with what needs doing

  • A one-sentence verdict at the top, then one list with wear and services together, the most urgent first

  • Tap a bike's condition score to show only that bike

  • Everything that's fine is folded away, so the list is only what needs you

  • Not tracked yet tells you which components have no lifespan or service interval, so the condition score leaves them out, with Set lifespans to fix that

You can act from the list: Replace on a worn component opens the replace window, a service opens Record a service right there, and Set a reminder adds a reminder for a component or bike that has none.

A new wear ring

The ring that shows a component's wear has a tick at 80% (where "Replacement due soon" starts), keeps going round past 100% so you can see how far over it is, and shows a dashed ring when there's too little to go on. It's the same ring on the component cards, the Condition page and About to ride.

Lifespan, on the component's Condition tab

Each component's Condition tab has a Lifespan card: how far it's been against its lifespan, and how much is left or how far it's past it. Near or past the end, it tells you so with two ways out: Replace it, or Extend lifespan if it's still good. You can set or edit the lifespan right on the card; you get a warning at 80% and an alert at 100%.

Record a service: clearer reminders

The Record a service utility now sums up what a reminder will do before you save it, and again when you're done: which service, on which bike or component, how often, where counting starts, when the first reminder comes and how you're told. It asks when it was last done (now, a date, or I don't know), and if a reminder with that name already exists it shows that one instead of making a second. After recording a service, Remind me again every … is ticked for the common services and counts from the service date.

The same words everywhere

Wear and services now read the same on every page, in the emails and in push notifications: Replacement due, Replacement due soon and Good for wear, Service due and Due soon for services. The Service tabs are now called Condition. A due service is red everywhere, and "80 days overdue" is the same number on every page.

Smoother and steadier

  • Pages slide when you go deeper or back, and fade when you jump to another section

  • iPhone: the back button no longer lands on a black screen after viewing a bike in 3D, and going back to the dashboard no longer runs out of memory with the 3D view open

  • On Add component, a ✕ in the type field clears it, so "Find your part" searches all types again

  • The dashboard's Just rode no longer keeps loading when another bike is on the 3D stand

  • The feature tour videos on the homepage play on iPhone after you pick a feature

  • A link to just a language (like watchmy.bike/nl) opens that language's home page instead of a blank page

As always: if something reads wrong or got harder to find, tell me here.
